Launching redesign.mobility during JACK's Racing Day
at TT Circuit Assen
With support from the central government, business and education, the new platform redesign.mobility will be launched during the annual car and motorsports event JACK's Racing Day (August 11 to 13, 2023 at TT Circuit Assen). The first concrete initiatives are the EV Roadshow and the GreenKarting schools program, through which redesign.mobility will accelerate the transition to emission-free transportation.
"We are taking to the streets and into the classrooms," said initiator Peter-Paul Laumans. "With the EV Roadshow we are going to inform the public in a very accessible and concrete way about and introduce them to emission-free transport, while the GreenKarting schools program is aimed at enthusing secondary school students for a technical education."
redesign.mobility is part of the redesign.life Foundation that explores, introduces and promotes sustainable ways of mobility, working and living. The foundation grew out of a joint bid for a Formula E race in Eindhoven, supported by concerned (technology) companies, our government and interest groups.
Government subsidy
The Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management recently made a grant available to support redesign.mobility in accelerating the transition to sustainable mobility. Outgoing State Secretary Vivian Heijnen: "By introducing more people from young to old to sustainable mobility and its technology, redesign.mobility contributes to a better future and that deserves our support."
Laumans: "Although we have the largest number of charging stations in Europe in our country, less than 4.5 percent of the vehicle fleet is now fully electric. That is why we are combining the ideas, knowledge and strengths of business, education, citizens, and government. "Fantastic, of course, that even The Hague recognizes the importance of our initiative with a state subsidy."
Charging, driving & sharing
Over the next few years, the EV Roadshow will in turn descend on busy locations throughout the country, such as large public events and city squares. 'Charging, driving & sharing' will be the central theme here. Visitors and passers-by receive information about all aspects of electric driving and can also test drive a car on the spot. Laumans: "This is how we make the threshold very low and let them see and experience all the possibilities."
Demand for technicians
The GreenKarting schools program - co-developed by teachers - focuses specifically on secondary schools and challenges students to build an electric kart together, which they will actually race during the final race. There is plenty of attention for battery technology, electric propulsion, programming, communication, and design. "The energy transition creates a great demand for technicians. Choosing a technical field no longer means dirty hands. On the contrary, the work is very diverse and, not unimportantly, well paid," Laumans said. "The GreenKarting schools program is an initiative of the redesign.life Foundation in cooperation with Techportal."
JACK's Racing Day 2023
The official launch of redesign.mobility will take place during the annual JACK's Racing Day, Europe's largest combined car, motorcycle and karting event, from 11 to 13 August 2023 at TT Circuit Assen. redesign.mobility is a social partner of the free-to-attend racing spectacle, which typically attracts 100,000 visitors. Laumans: "Our roots are close to electric racing and the organization of JACK's Racing Day has also invariably provided a stage for emission-free driving in recent years." In addition to introducing the programs, redesign.mobility inspires during JACK's Racing Day from the paddock with stories, experiences and speakers from zero emission practice. Attendees will include talented racing driver Ellis Spiezia, the Royal Dutch Autosport Federation (KNAF), InMotion from the Technical University Eindhoven, the Electrical Drivers Association (VER) and teacher Geert Aben (participant pilot GreenKarting schools program).
